Chiltern Railways

JSD has now worked with Chiltern Railways on three major range design projects. With the first, we moved this Train Operating Company (TOC) from its previous stock-supported Arriva group uniform to a bespoke collection of clothing and accessories. The second project in 2015 linked stylish new uniforms to the opening of the new Chiltern Oxford Parkway to London line. And the third range – launching in 2019, following a wearer trial and staff consultation period – involves a complete redesign to more casual, fit for purpose evolution workwear, a step away from this rail company’s more formal roots.

JSD has met the challenge to create a smart and comfortable clothing range, for a wide range of our different jobs and needs.

Chiltern Railways

Initially, Chiltern Railways chose JSD because of our proven track record for delivery. The company had previously experienced ongoing supply issues from its provider, with lengthy wait times for stock and incorrect orders on delivery. Staff members were disillusioned, which was a further catalyst for change.

The first bespoke collection that JSD created made the staff across all job roles – ground and ticket office staff, train drivers and maintenance teams – look professional, welcoming and approachable. “It was a contemporary take on a classic rail range,” says our Managing Director, Susanne Malim. “Importantly, it reflected Chiltern Railways’ core values: ‘With care, with creativity, with each other’.”

The TOC’s Customer Service Director recognised the challenge that JSD faced to develop a smart and comfortable corporate clothing range for so many different jobs and needs. “That’s why we are so delighted with the chic collection that JSD has created – and the personal service its team delivers to us at every stage,” he commented then.

When in 2015 Chiltern Railways opened its new Oxford Parkway to London line, JSD was commissioned to create a new uniform range, for staff across the entire Chiltern network. ‘Classic yet fashionable, with a quirky twist’ is how the client described this uniform update – which incorporated a dress for the first time, and invited train drivers to choose between a tailored suit or cargoes and a polo shirt.
