We value their implicit appreciation of the original French designs and the skill of the JSD designers, who know just how to adapt the look for the British market – while keeping as true as possible to the original.

The House of Guerlain, the premier French parfumier founded in 1828 in the rue de Rivoli, is synonymous with Parisienne chic and elegance. When it comes to dressing Guerlain consultants in concessions across the UK, the creator of some of the world’s most enduring perfumes – think Mitsouko and Shalimar – opts to work with Jermyn Street Design.

Preserving the essence of French flair is vital for the Guerlain brand image. And so the fragrance house commissioned one of the most exciting new young Parisian talents, Alexis Mabille, to create original designs for instore consultants globally. JSD was briefed by the Guerlain Head Office in Paris to work with these distinctive Mabille creations and to adapt them to suit the British silhouette – but to keep the style as true as possible to the original.

Mabille matched a slender fitted top with distinctive cutaway neck detail with a curvaceous fishtail skirt to create the look of a dress (with the option for trousers). A wide black belt, complete with the signature Mabille Big Bow – created a cinched waist effect.

This Paris original was immensely slender and fitted. The JSD in-house design team played with seams and form, and adapted the pattern to re-style a very flattering, elegant corporate uniform that allows for greater movement. Our approach was to create a look that was infinitely more wearable for the British figure, but that still mirrored the glamour that is Guerlain.

Alexis Mabille had chosen a black fine wool crepe for the original French designs. Drawing on our experience in the fragrance and cosmetics sector over many years, we knew that this crepe would not withstand the wear and tear of the UK workplace. So we asked one of our premium suppliers to specify a fabric that has the look and stretch of fine crepe, but with more in-built stability and durability.

Guerlain has worked with JSD for more than a decade and trusts our in-house design dynamic and empathy for both British and French taste. They like the fact that JSD leads the corporate wear industry, and our capability and track record in the cosmetic and beauty sector – that is, after all, where Susanne Malim started this business.

Roll out for over 300 units in each style was September 2013. We handled distribution, sent out wearer guidelines with a form for measurements, and always make it easy for Guerlain’s UK staff to order and re-order their outfits. It’s this added value service that makes this an enduring working relationship.
